Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond is seeking a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to support adults and seniors in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. The CTRS will assess, plan individualized interventions, and lead group therapy under clinical supervision.

The role requires a CTRS credential, a Bachelor's degree, and at least three years of inpatient practice, with supervisory experience preferred. CPR and de-escalation training are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and CTRS license; yearly certification.
• Prefer three (3) years experience clinical practice in inpatient acute care.
• Demonstrate supervisory experience of 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct therapeutic recreation services in accordance with established standards and regulations.
• Plan and conduct individual and group therapy as ordered by physician's input.
• Complete all necessary paperwork within 72 hours of admission; conduct assessments and compile treatment integration under supervision.
• Performs chart audits of recreational activities provided to patients.
• Participate as active member of the treatment team; report on patient progress toward goals.
• Document services promptly in the medical record; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Communicate with patients and families in an age/disability/culturally sensitive manner; identify safety and equipment needs.
• Conduct discharge planning involving patient support system as appropriate.
• Develop and provide in-services for staff at least bi-annually.
