Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

Job Responsibilities

1. Assure provision of recreational therapy activities through individual and group programs to attain or maintain the highest practical level of physical, mental, spiritual, and psychosocial well-being.
2. Participate as a member of the treatment team to integrate recreational activities and socialization into the patient’s overall care plan.
3. Document activities reflecting services provided, patient progress toward treatment goals, and daily group notes in the EMR.
4. Develop scheduled recreational activities and programs based on assessed patient needs and interests, providing culturally appropriate activities, supplies, and materials.
5. Create structured programs aimed at reducing stress, improving mood, increasing activity levels, and enhancing social skills.

As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Recreational Therapist designs and implements activities tailored to individual needs, fostering effective interactions, coping skills, cognitive functioning, reality orientation, and independence in self-care.

Signet Health offers a competitive compensation package with a starting hourly rate of $26.00. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 7:30 pm, and Saturday, 10 am to 6:30 pm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Arts or Science in therapeutic recreation or related behavioral health services from an accredited institution (Master’s preferred).
• Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS) is required.
• Ability to demonstrate experience or training in treating individuals with mental or psychiatric illnesses.
• English and Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
