Qualifications

Job description

Located in the heart of the community of Washington Heights in Northern Manhattan, this 705-bed rehabilitation and nursing care facility is dedicated to providing quality care through diverse programs and services designed to support health and independence for individuals needing short-stay or long-term inpatient care.

Responsibilities include:

1. Designing, implementing, conducting, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs (group and one-on-one), including creative arts, to meet resident needs and maximize strengths.
2. Inviting and escorting residents to on- and off-community programs, ensuring their safety and security by monitoring their whereabouts during programs and at all times when residents are present.
3. Appropriately utilizing specific behavioral techniques for dementia residents and other populations.

Qualifications:

• B.A. or B.S. degree in therapeutic recreation, music therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, dance/movement therapy, creative arts therapy, or a related field.
• AND preferably, one of the following awarded within four (4) months of employment:
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
• Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT- BC)
• Art Therapist Registered (ATR)
• Art Therapist Registered - Board Certified (ATR-BC)
• Registered Dance Movement Therapist (R-DMT)
• Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT)

Additional skills:

• Demonstrated skill in crafts, music, dance, art, yoga, puppetry, drama, etc., as needed to complement department and community needs.
• Ability to plan and implement programs.
• Clear enunciated communication.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Good judgment.
• Consistent punctuality and attendance.
