Job summary

Gang Alternative Inc. seeks a part-time Certified Teacher for our Middle and High School Afterschool Program (BLOC) in Homestead, FL. This role delivers homework help, test prep, and instructional support to diverse students in a structured after-school setting.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Education, experience with children, and strong communication skills in English, Creole, or Spanish. Attendance on Tuesdays/Thursdays and Mondays/Thursdays is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Evaluate aptitude levels (math and reading) of all participants to guide placement.
• Conduct pre, mid and post tests on math and reading/literacy.
• Provide middle and high school students with homework assistance.
• Work with Youth Prevention Specialists to determine students' needs.
• Provide weekly activity reports on students’ progress and needs.
• Maintain a calendar of activities for the assigned group.
• Provide students with constructive feedback and help them understand key concepts.
• Develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons.
• Ensure safety and confidentiality of the students.
• Supervise children at all times and report unusual incidents in writing.

Work Location: Miami-Dade County

Salary Range: $27-$30 per hour (non-negotiable)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing students with individualized assistance to help them learn new concepts and complete assignments in our after-school programs. Their duties include assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks while answering the student’s questions relating to students’ assignments. This individual also assists with data collection and other program reports as identified by the Program Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
• Develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides.
• Always assure the safety and security of children.
• Always assures with compliance of confidentiality of the students.
• Assures that children are always supervised.
• Reports all unusual incidents in writing as required by DCF.
• Establishes positive rapport with parents.
• Complies with timely completion of required assignments.
• Communicates need of children and parents to the Program Manager weekly.
