Job summary

Gang Alternative, Inc. seeks a part-time Certified Teacher for its middle and high school afterschool program (BLOC) in Miami-Dade County.

The role focuses on providing individualized academic assistance, homework support, test prep, and progress reporting to students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school for middle school, and Mondays and Thursdays for high school. Responsibilities include aptitude evaluations, frequent testing, data collection, materials development, and close collaboration

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education is required.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Proficiency in English/Creole/Spanish preferred.
• Experience servicing a diverse or multicultural community preferred.
• Computer literacy required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions, and deliver feedback.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate aptitude levels (math and reading) of participants to support placement and progress.
• Conduct pre-, mid-, and post-tests on math and reading/literacy.
• Provide homework assistance to middle and high school students.
• Collaborate with Youth Prevention Specialists to address student needs.
• Submit weekly activity reports on student progress and needs.
• Maintain a calendar of activities for the group.
• Offer positive and constructive feedback and help students understand key concepts.
• Develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons.
• Ensure safety and confidentiality of students; supervise at all times.
• Communicate needs of children and parents to the Program Manager weekly.

Their duties include assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks while answering the student’s questions relating to students’ assignments.
