Gang Alternative, Inc. in Broward County seeks a Certified Teacher for an afterschool program on a part-time schedule (Mon-Fri, 10 hours/week). You will support academic enrichment, assist with lesson delivery, and help implement Botvin LifeSkills and Positive Action curricula.

You will conduct assessments, provide homework help to middle and high school students, prepare teaching materials, and maintain safety and confidentiality while coordinating with the Program Manager to report progress.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Proficiency in English/Creole/Spanish preferred.
  • Experience servicing a diverse or multicultural community preferred.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback.
  • Must have access to a licensed, insured personal vehicle for reliable transportation; mileage reimbursement provided.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate aptitude levels (math and reading) of participants to support academic performance.
  • Conduct pre, mid and post tests on math and reading.
  • Provide homework assistance to middle and high school students.
  • Collaborate with Youth Prevention Specialists to identify student needs.
  • Submit weekly activity progress reports and notes.
  • Maintain activity calendar for the group.

Job description

Title: Certified Teacher – Afterschool Program, Part-Time

Reports to: Program Manager, M-PACT

Employment Type: Part-time (Mon-Fri, 10 hours/week)

Work Location: Broward County

Salary Range: $30 per hour (non-negotiable)

Position Summary

This position will provide academic enrichment support during afterschool mentoring sessions, assist with lesson delivery, and reinforce core skill-building activities aligned with the Botvin LifeSkills and Positive Action curricula. This individual also assists with data collection and other program reports as identified by the Program Manager.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for evaluating aptitude levels (in particular math and reading) of all participants in order to place and further their academic performance.
  • Conduct pre, mid and post tests on math and reading/literacy.
  • Responsible for providing middle and high school students with homework assistance.
  • Work with Youth Prevention Specialists to determine specific needs of students.
  • Provide required weekly activity reports on students' progress and areas of need.
  • Assist with maintaining a calendar of activities for the assigned group.
  • Provide students with positive and constructive feedback.
  • Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
  • Develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides.
  • Always assure the safety and security of children.
  • Always assures with compliance of confidentiality of the students.
  • Assures that children are always supervised.
  • Reports all unusual incidents in writing as required by DCF.
  • Establishes positive rapport with parents.
  • Complies with timely completion of required assignments.
  • Communicates need of children and parents to the Program Manager weekly
