Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles seeks a Part Time Swim Lesson Instructor at Anderson Munger YMCA in Los Angeles, CA 90020. You will oversee professional swim instruction and help maintain a safe, welcoming pool environment for members.

Under supervision of the Aquatics Director, you will instruct lessons, keep rosters, assess progress, and communicate with parents. Certifications must be current, and you will follow emergency procedures when needed.

Qualifications

• AGE: Minimum age of 16.
• MANDATORY CERTIFICATIONS: Current American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS for the Professional Rescuer; Standard/Community First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration; YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification or ARC Water Safety Instructor; ARC or YMCA Lifeguard Training preferred.
• RELATED EXPERIENCE: Experience instructing swim lessons or coaching aquatic programs.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming and nurturing environment for all students.
• Instruct classes using the YMCA of the USA swim lesson program.
• Responsible for the safety of all class participants at all times.
• Maintain class rosters and check daily attendance.
• Track progress of class participants using skill assessments; issue certificates/progress reports.
• Communicate proper participant placement to Aquatics Director and/or parents regularly.
• Prepare lesson/session plan prior to each session.
• Instruct class participants on the use of teaching aids, flotation devices, toys and other aquatic equipment.
