Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to provide professional instruction in our swim program and to uphold a safe, nurturing environment for all members.

You will deliver lessons, monitor safety, and track participant progress while maintaining accurate rosters and attendance. Certification upkeep and emergency readiness are essential components of this role within our Aquatics team.

Qualifications

• Proficient in all six competitive strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly.
• Able to tread water for 2 minutes using two different kicks.
• Demonstrates endurance and proficient swimming technique.
• Remains calm and efficient when addressing problems in the pool area.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swim lessons using the YMCA swim lesson program.
• Maintain class rosters and check daily attendance.
• Track progress of participants and issue certificates/reports.
• Communicate participant placement to Aquatics Director and/or parents.
• Prepare lesson/session plans before each session.
• Ensure safety of all class participants at all times.
• Respond to emergencies following proper procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Uphold safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management policies.
