Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals in Charleston, West Virginia, is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join the operative team as a scrub person. You will support the circulating RN, maintain a sterile field, and assist with instrument counts and positioning during procedures.

The role requires four years of Surgical Technology experience or an LPN license with surgical tech training, plus BLS within 30 days of hire. This is a day-shift, non-exempt position in the Pain Management cost center.

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or completion of a Surgical Technology Program with certification.
• Basic Life Support certification to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Four years of Surgical Technology experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintains sterile field; assists circulating RN.
• Counts sponges, instruments, and needles per guidelines.
• Gowns and gloving assistance for surgeons; positions equipment and instruments.
• Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during procedures.
• Assists with patient transport and positioning under surgeon direction.
• Prepares supplies and equipment per preference cards.
• Assists with sterilization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Monitors inventory and restocks supplies.
• Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses per guidelines.
• Assists with general department cleaning duties and equipment checks.
• Records patient charges accurately.
• Responds to calls within 30 minutes.
• Mentors level one & two technologists; participates in unit education.
