Position: Surgical Technologist II (Operating Room Scrub Technician)
Responsibilities include setting up sterile fields, gathering supplies, passing instruments during surgery, and performing count procedures as per policy. The role serves as a resource and preceptor for less experienced Technologists, takes call for routine and high-acuity cases after orientation, and completes assigned duties during transitional periods.
Qualifications
- Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C), or Certified Operating Room/Surgical Technician (CORST).
- Continued Employment: Current registration with the Virginia State Board of Medicine, AHA BLS/HCP certification, and current CST, TS-C, or CORST certification.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub technician; 3-5 years preferred, with 2 years in a specific practice area.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; graduation from a Surgical Technology Program, military training, or LPN program. A degree from an accredited Surgical Technology Program is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Functions under RN or practitioner supervision, providing direct patient care, emotional support, and problem solving according to policies.
- Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, and deviations from standard care.
- May handle medications and supplies.
- Work shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays with schedules set by the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.
- Will take independent call after orientation.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, prolonged standing, bending, walking, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.
