Job summary

AdventHealth in Florida is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to join our operating room team. The role focuses on sterile technique, instrument handling, and assisting surgeons during procedures across multiple specialties.

Requirements include at least one year of scrub experience, CST certification or equivalent, and strong knowledge of sterilization and patient safety. The position is full-time and based at our Dade City facility.

Qualifications

• Completion of validation skills required.
• Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field set-up required.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques required.
• Laser skills/training preferred.
• Minimum of one year scrub experience in a multi-disciplinary surgical service required.
• Proficient in English (written and spoken).
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia, surgical site infection prevention, emergency code cart, disinfection, clinical alarms, and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepares sterile dressings and clean instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists team members with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping for the next patient.
• Handles surgical specimens with 100% accuracy.

• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Obtains scrubs, gowns, and gloves for surgical procedures.

• Performs counts with circulator prior to incision and before closure.
• Gowns and gloves the surgeon and assistants.
• Assists in draping the sterile field.
• Passes instruments and supplies during procedure.
• Maintains sterile technique throughout procedure.

Job Description:

• Prepares sterile dressings and clean instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists other team members with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping for the next patient.

• Recognizes and responds immediately to emergency situations appropriately.
• Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Obtains scrubs, gowns, and gloves for surgical procedures.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures, displaying knowledge of procedure and patient positioning.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.
• Gowns and gloves the surgeon and assistants.
• Assists in draping the sterile field.
• Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia, surgical site infection prevention, emergency code cart, high and low level disinfection, clinical alarms, medication management, isolation precautions, surgical care of patients age (0-100+), fire safety, AIDET, and SBAR [Required]
• Proficient in a minimum of 3 major surgical specialties [Preferred]
