Job summary

Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our Surgical Services team. You will prepare operating rooms, maintain sterile fields, and assist surgeons during procedures while upholding patient safety and aseptic standards.

The role requires CST certification, BLS, and graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program. On-call expectations and a 5x8 schedule apply, with a strong commitment to teamwork and quality care.

Qualifications

• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating rooms for procedures and ensures instruments, supplies, and sterile conditions.
• Maintains sterile field and assists surgeons by passing instruments during surgery.
• Verifies counts of instruments, sponges, and needles according to policy.
• Assists with patient positioning, skin prep, and OR setup.
• Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure safe and efficient care.
• Documents required information accurately and timely; participates in education and competency activities.

Schedule: Schedule Options: 5x8s: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

On-Call Requirement: Every 5th weekend

Must be able to report to the facility within 30 minutes when on call.

How You'll Contribute

A Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) who excels in this role:

• Prepares operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile.
• Establishes and maintains the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Anticipates the needs of surgeons and assists by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
• Verifies instrument, sponge, and needle counts according to established policies and procedures.
• Assists with patient positioning, skin preparation, and operating room setup.
• Handles surgical specimens according to policy and procedure.
• Consistently follows aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
• Assists with cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment.
• Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Documents required information accurately and in a timely manner.
• Participates in required education, competency validation, and performance improvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
