Job summary

Lifepoint Health–Highpoint Health Winchester with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join the surgical services team on a PRN/variable schedule in Winchester, Tennessee. The CST will prepare ORs, maintain sterile fields, assist surgeons, and collaborate with clinicians to ensure patient safety and efficient care.

The position requires graduating from an accredited Surgical Technology program, CST certification, and AHA BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
• Current CST certification is required.
• Current AHA BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating rooms for procedures with sterile equipment and supplies.
• Maintains sterile field during surgeries and assists by passing instruments.
• Assists with patient positioning and OR setup.
• Counts instruments, sponges, and needles per policy.
• Collaborates with surgical team to ensure safe patient care.
• Documents information accurately and participates in performance improvement.

How You'll Contribute

A Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) who excels in this role:

• Prepares operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile.
• Establishes and maintains the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Anticipates the needs of surgeons and assists by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
• Verifies instrument, sponge, and needle counts according to established policies and procedures.
• Assists with patient positioning, skin preparation, and operating room setup.
• Handles surgical specimens according to policy and procedure.

• Consistently follows aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.

• Assists with cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment.
• Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
• Documents required information accurately and in a timely manner.
• Participates in required education, competency validation, and performance improvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
