Job summary

St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston seeks a Surgical Technologist to support scheduled procedures, prepare sterile instrument tables, pass instruments, and assist surgeons during operations. You will also scrub in and maintain OR readiness per established protocols.

Under supervision, you will help ensure patient safety, proper handling of specimens, and on-time case turnover, while staying current with equipment and procedural developments in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program and certified as a surgical technologist.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required.
• Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills; attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Supports and maintains the Mission, Core Values and expected customer service behaviors of St. Joseph Medical Center.
• Follows HIPAA guidelines to protect PHI.
• Promotes a culture of safety for patients and Associates.
• Keeps current regarding developments in surgical equipment and techniques.
• Scrubs for cases according to sterile procedures; assists surgeons as needed.
• Prepares for operative procedures with sterile setup as required by surgeons’ preferences.
• Passes instruments and supplies to surgeons and assistants during procedures.
• Counts sponges, needles and instruments according to policy; cleans operating room after each case.
• Receives surgical specimens and notifies circulating nurse.
• Performs clerical and service duties; schedules cases and transports patients.
• Participates in on-call schedule and arrives within 45 minutes.
• Assists in orienting and training new associates.
