Job summary

Tennova Healthcare- Turkey Creek Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technician Lead to support the operating room team by preparing rooms, organizing instruments and assisting surgeons under supervision. The role emphasizes aseptic technique, infection control, and patient safety.

The Lead will train and mentor surgical technicians, assist with scheduling and quality initiatives, and help create a collaborative, high-performance OR environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
• 3-5 years of experience as a surgical technician are required.
• Lead or preceptor experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room and field with instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Assists during procedures by passing instruments promptly.
• Maintains aseptic technique and infection control standards.
• Documents sponge, needle and instrument counts per protocol.
• Labels and preserves surgical specimens for pathology.
• Performs instrument cleaning and transports items for decontamination.
• Supports room turnover and stocking of supplies.
• Helps update physician preference cards.
• Participates in orientation and competency training for staff.
• Performs other duties and maintains reliable attendance.
• Complies with policy and standards.
