Job summary

Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant in San Antonio, TX, is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech Lead to guide the operating room team, anticipate surgeon and procedure needs, and support safe, efficient sterile technique.

You will mentor other technologists, ensure compliance with AORN standards, and collaborate with perioperative staff to promote high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
• Graduate of a surgical technologist program OR hires prior to 9/1/2009 may substitute with 1-year experience in a hospital setting as a surgical technologist.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and maintaining the surgical suite with instruments, supplies, and advanced equipment to ensure safe, seamless procedures.
• Assisting with patient transport, positioning, prepping, and draping while prioritizing comfort, privacy, and safety.
• Scrubbing in and partnering with the surgical team by providing instruments, handling specimens, and anticipating the team’s needs.
• Monitoring patients and surgical equipment throughout procedures, responding promptly and effectively to any concerns.
• Upholding sterile technique, completing room turnover efficiently, and supporting a high-performing, collaborative team environment.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Surgical Technologist Lead is responsible for assisting with the delivery of quality surgical care through planning and anticipating the surgeon/procedure needs and coordinating with the circulating perioperative nurse during surgical procedures. Demonstrates competency in surgical technology to include all major surgical specialty areas; includes gathering and preparing sterile supplies, equipment, preparing/maintaining the sterile field and assisting the surgeon by supplying sterile instruments/supplies to the sterile field in a safe and efficient manner. Performs routine scrub role as well specifically delegated department duties. Consistently follows current AORN and regulatory standards and established policies and procedures of the System. Provides a leadership role to support and guide other surgical technologist in promoting optimum patient care and team work within the surgical team; includes mentoring and assisting surgical technicians and surgical first assistants on a daily basis.

What qualifications you will need

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required

• NON-CERTIFIED: No license, certificate or registrations required for the Sterile Processing Department All other departments no license, certificate or registration required if they meet the below provision: Per Texas HB 643, surgical technologists entering practice after 09/01/2009 must have and maintain a surgical technologist certification. Individuals that performed in a surgical technologist position prior to 09/01/2009 are not required to obtain a surgical technologist certification.
• CERTIFIED: Must have and maintain ONE of the following: i. CST – Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (formally the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical 1 Methodist Healthcare System Job Description Job Title: Surgical Technologist, Lead FLSA: Non-exempt Technologist) OR ii. TS-C- Tech in Surgery, Certified through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
