Job summary

Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant is seeking a dedicated Special Procedures Technologist to support diagnostic imaging, operate fluoroscopy, manage contrast injections and ensure sterile technique. You will collaborate with physicians to optimize patient care and workflow in the radiology department.

The role requires ARRT-R radiography certification, RT/Radiologic Technologist credentials, and a high school diploma, with BLS required within 30 days of start.

Qualifications

  • BLS within 30 days of employment.
  • Care for pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and adult patients.
  • Efficient workflow in Special Procedures with timely room turnover.
  • Proper use of the computer system for scheduling, tracking and charges.
  • Adheres to infection control and sterile techniques; maintains safety.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence in all areas of special procedures: positioning, physiology, preparation, factors and surgical assistance.
  • Provide care to pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and adult patients.
  • Ensure efficient workflow by starting patients on time and minimizing room turnaround time.
  • Use the computer system correctly for scheduling, tracking and capturing charges.
  • Follow infection control and universal precautions; maintain sterile technique and cleanliness.
  • Care for IVs and may inject medications under physician direction.
  • May access radiopharmaceuticals and contrast agents as appropriate.
  • Participate in orientation, training and CQI activities within the department.
  • Promote professionalism and a positive image with colleagues and patients.

Job Summary and Qualifications

General Statement of Duties:

Responsible for diagnostic imaging equipment to produce contrast enhanced radiographs of blood vessels to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Operates fluoroscope to aid physician in viewing image of the guide wire or catheter through blood vessel to area of interest. Fills automatic injector with contrast media, sets flow rate, and activates injection of contrast media into blood vessels of patient, as directed by physician. Monitors video display of area of interest and adjusts density and contrast to obtain optimum exposure and starts filming sequence. Assure that sterile or non-sterile supplies such as contrast materials, catheters or other required equipment, are present and in working order or requisition materials

Essential Job Functions:

1. Demonstrates competence in all areas of special procedures: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, technical factors and surgical assistance.

2. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, adult patients

3. Ensures efficient workflow in Special Procedures Department by getting patients started on time and keeping room turnaround time to a minimum.

4. Responsible for the proper use of the computer system (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).

5. Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks. Maintains order and cleanliness. Always practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.

6. Responsible for the care and maintenance of existing IVs may be responsible for injecting specific medication under the direction of the physician.

Additional Job Functions:

1. May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

2. Will integrate current scientific knowledge and technology into their work practices, play an active roll in the orientation and training of new employees and students and participate in continuing education provided to the department during work hours. Yearly, Technologist will participate in and complete their Job Skills/Competency Checklist.

3. Maintain an atmosphere of professionalism, communicate technical and general information to, as well as, display consideration to peers, medical personnel, and customers in a professional manner and promote a positive image in daily and professional activities. Technologist will maintain a clean, stocked, orderly work area.

4. All employees shall facilitate and participate in current and future Radiology Department CQI monitoring and implement changes accordingly. Employees shall assist in collection of data, reviewing and revising the CQI program to be in compliance with accrediting agencies, hospital goals, departmental policies and procedures. All employees shall demonstrate knowledge and responsibility for on going CQI.

5. Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

6. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.

7. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.

8. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules, regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.

9. Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
