Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, TX is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist for the Transplant Operating Room. This full-time role operates 6:30am–7pm with days varied and requires call and holiday coverage.

Job Summary

Certified Surgical Technologist, Transplant OR

• Full time; 6:30am-7pm (days varied)
• Call and holiday coverage required
• CST and BLS required (American Heart Association)
• 2+ years of surgical tech experience preferred
• 1+ year of Transplant (abdominal procedure and major vascular experience) or 2+ years of Vascular Surgical experience preferred
• Must be willing to support other service lines

This position is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.

Position is responsible for providing competent perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation. Position functions as scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and as outlined in the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support; Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• New Grad: <1 year
• Surg Tech I: 1 year
• Surg Tech II: 2-4 years
• Surg Tech III: 5+ years

Principal Accountabilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts; performs independently as first scrub in assigned specialty areas.
• Supports readiness and flow of cases to facilitate overall functioning of the unit, performing assigned duties as needed.
• Verifies functioning and adequate availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to the surgical procedure as indicated by the surgeon’s preference card and other resources; applies principles of asepsis to provide optimal patient care in the OR.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
