Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Surgical Technician for the day shift in the Surgical Services department at Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands. The role supports the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures, prepares the operating suite with sterile supplies, and assists the surgeon with instrument handoffs during surgery.

Responsibilities include patient preparation, transport, positioning, and maintaining instrument counts throughout procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required with 2 years cumulative experience or related technical/Associate degree.
• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire; CST/TS-C/NBSTSA/NCCT certifications preferred.
• Experience in handling sterile/non-sterile instruments and assisting in surgical procedures is expected.

How you'll make an impact in this role

• Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instrument counts throughout procedures.

What Minimum Requirements You'll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
• • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • One or more of the following:
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
