Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to support the operating room team. The role involves assisting the surgeon, RN circulator and anesthesia provider, preparing the patient and equipment, and ensuring a safe operation with proper draping, suturing, and wound care.

Qualifications include CSFA or equivalent certification, high school diploma or GED, and at least 1 year of surgical assisting experience. A $20,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Manual dexterity and mechanical skills needed to properly use and hold surgical instruments.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• One year or more of surgical assisting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedure, anatomy and physiology, and operative techniques related to specific procedure.
• Assures all necessary supplies, equipment or instruments are opened or available. Ensure items are charged for appropriately by confirming with nurse and surgical technologist.
• Assists physician as directed with proper positioning, draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, tissue handling, cautery techniques, stapling devices, suturing, and selecting along with applying the appropriate wound dressings.
• Assists team members in transportation, positioning and total care of patients.
