Job summary

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, VA is seeking a Surgical Assistant II to join our multidisciplinary team. The role requires coordination with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists to support intraoperative and postoperative patient care on swing shifts.

The candidate must have a trade school education and a CAHEAP-certified surgical assistant program, with state licensure as applicable.

Qualifications

• Trade school education required.
• Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Surgical Assistant Program required.
• Surgical Assistant license required for appropriate state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon as 1st or 2nd assistant and prepare equipment and tables for procedures.
• Provide visualization through retraction and assist with exposure, cauterization, suturing, and wound closure.
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care and coordinate with the surgical team.
• Participate in quality improvement projects and department training including orientation for new staff and students.
