Job summary

• Trade school completion required.
• CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant program graduate required.
• Surgical Assistant license required for state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgeon as 1st or 2nd assistant and helps with equipment selection and set up.
• Provides retraction for visualization of surgical site and cauterization of bleeding vessels.
• Performs suturing and closure of incisions and applies dressings, splints, and casts.
• Supports preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
• Demonstrates in-depth clinical/technical skills in three surgical specialties and participates in training.
