AdventHealth in Glendale Heights, IL is seeking a PRN Sterile Processing Technician for 2nd shift. The role involves sterilization, instrument decontamination, and collaboration with the surgical team to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments.

Primary duties include maintaining records, QA audits, and training new staff, while ensuring safety and cross-contamination prevention. This position is on-site and requires flexibility for night/weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • Must be proficient in English.
  • Knowledge of Sterilization Standards.
  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation.
  • Knowledge and practice of infection control techniques.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of prevention of cross-contamination and nosocomial infections.
  • Proficient use of all equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to lead others and work under stress and tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels.
  • Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments and containers.
  • Performs decontamination of soiled instruments and equipment.
  • Corrects instrument sets according to standards and tracking systems.
  • Maintains inventory levels for case carts.
  • Performs regular QA audits of peers.
  • Collaborates with the surgical team for timely availability of sterilized tools.
  • Monitors and documents sterilization processes for safety compliance.
  • Troubleshoots sterilization equipment and processes.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Trains new staff on sterilization procedures.
  • Ensures proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.

Job Description

PRN (as needed) - 2nd shift, scheduling can be flexible between 3pm-11:30pm.
1 Weekend Day Of On-call Required Per Month.
Maintains accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels. Other duties as assigned. Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning. Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers, and equipment according to instructions for use (IFUs) and established protocols. Corrects instrument sets according to current standards, established count sheets, and/or instrument tracking systems. Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts. Performs regular quality assurance program audits of peers. Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments and equipment. Monitors and documents sterilization processes to ensure compliance with safety standards. Troubleshoots and resolves issues with sterilization equipment and processes. Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sterilization processes. Trains new staff on sterilization procedures and protocols. Ensures proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
