Job summary

HCA Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee seeks a Certified RN Surgical First Assist to join the Surgical Services team. The role entails assisting the surgeon in the operating room, coordinating perioperative care, and ensuring patient safety through sterile technique and accurate identifications.

The ideal candidate holds an RN license in Florida (or multistate) with CNOR and RNFA certification, plus 5 years acute care experience or perioperative training.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing is required.
• Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license is required; compact license holders have 60 days to obtain Florida license.
• BLS-AHA Provider card required within 30 days of start.
• CNOR preferred.
• Certification as RNFA required.
• Acute Care Experience: minimum 5 years or completion of Perioperative Nursing course.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled cases.
• Serve as a liaison between the surgical team and the patients' families.
• Assess patients before, during, and after surgery and maintain a sterile operating room.
• Perform count procedures to protect patient from retained foreign objects and ensure correct site, side, and level.
• Perform interventions to maintain patient systems and balance during procedures.
• Involve patient or support person in decisions affecting post perioperative plan of care.
