Job summary

Clearview Cancer Institute in north Alabama seeks a Certified Professional Coder to input diagnostic codes for medical services in an outpatient oncology/hematology clinic. You will translate physician diagnoses into codes, ensure compliance with regulations, and support monthly evaluations.

The role requires an Associate’s degree or CPC certification, at least one year of medical coding experience, familiarity with ICD-9, excellent typing and communication, and strong organization to manage

Qualifications

  • Must have an Associate’s degree in Medical Coding or a certification from accredited school in Certified Professional Coding.
  • Must have at least one (1) year experience in medical coding.
  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9 codes and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Input appropriate diagnostic codes for various medical services.
  • Make sure the assigned codes meet all federal, legal, and insurance regulations.
  • Assist in monthly evaluations and management audits.
  • Understand and translate physician’s diagnosis and treatment plan into code using approved classification systems.
  • Prepare and review patient statements.
  • Read and understand the medical record of the patient and analyze the information to determine the patient’s condition, the cause of the condition, and how the condition was treated.
  • Review the code or codes selected to ensure that it covers all services that were performed for that patient.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This person does not have direct contact with patients.Physical requirementsThis position requires that the employee be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for up to eight hours a day.Direct reportsThis position is not a supervisory position.
