Job summary

AFF is seeking a Certified Pool Operator to oversee and maintain pool water quality and safety in compliance with state and county guidelines. The role includes operating, maintaining, and cleaning pool mechanical systems, and ensuring proper safety protocols are followed.

You will report to the Aquatic Manager and be part of a team focused on exceptional member service, safety, and club-wide success. Must have CPO and CPR/AED certifications and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Get & Keep Members by delivering exceptional service and fostering strong member relationships.
• Follow AFF standards, training manuals, and department handbooks.
• Maintain safety and sound judgment per club protocols; arrive on time in uniform.
• Perform preventative pool maintenance and monitor water quality.
• Keep logs and records of testing, maintenance, and regulatory requirements.
• Wear appropriate attire and participate in meetings and trainings.
• Communicate openly with the team and collaborate with fitness professionals.

Job Details

Job Location: Colonial Heights - Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Salary Range: $12.77 - $25.00 Hourly. Certified Pool Operator (CPO).

Pay Range

$12.77 – $25.00 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, tenure, and demonstrated performance. This role includes structured pay progression based on technical skill, reliability, and excellence in maintaining safe and compliant aquatic environments.

Objective

To oversee and maintain pool water quality and safety in accordance with State and County guidelines, and to ensure proper operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of all pool mechanical systems and components.

Criteria

• Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification
• Current CPR and AED Certification
• Proficient oral, written, and technology communication skills (email/text)

• Maintain open, honest communication with the team and partner together as fitness professionals

Certified Pool Operator Responsibilities

• Maintain safe, clean, and properly balanced pool water in accordance with State and County regulations
• Test water quality, record findings, and adjust chemical levels as neededPerform preventative maintenance on pool systems, pumps, filters, heaters, and related equipment
• Maintain inventory of chemicals and reagents; ensure proper storage and handling
• Notify the AM of equipment needs, malfunctions, or safety concerns
• Keep the pump room and Aquatics area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation related to pool operations, testing logs, maintenance records, and regulatory requirements
• Stay active and current with AFF‑approved certifications, including CPR/AED and any specialty aquatic certifications
• Participate in AFF‑recommended education, workshops, trainings, events, meetings, and upskilling opportunities
• Wear appropriate attire to ensure safety while handling chemicals and equipment
