Job summary

South Shore Hospital is seeking a phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick) according to established procedures. You will identify patients, label specimens, and ensure bedside labeling, while prioritizing STAT draws and ensuring timely transport to the lab.

You will use handheld devices to select orders, verify information, and maintain accurate records. Training new staff and supporting workflow are also expected responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of four (4) years of high school education preferred.
• One (1) year of full time phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick) according to established procedures.
• Identifies patients and labels specimen tubes with date, time, and initials.
• Determines priority of STAT draws and ensures timely transport to lab.
• Utilizes computers to verify information and enter orders with minimal errors.
• Maintains orderly workflow and assists colleagues to ensure smooth operations.
