Job summary

Qualifications

• Education level equivalent to completion of high school; graduation from an accredited phlebotomy program satisfies education.
• Formal training: completion of an accredited phlebotomy study course.
• Licensure/certification: phlebotomy certification (ASCP/ASPT/NCA or equivalent) within 12 months of hire.
• Work experience: minimum 6 months venipunctures in fast-paced lab or hospital; 1 year preferred.
• Computer skills: proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients and perform blood collection by venipuncture or capillary methods.
• Label, handle, and transport specimens to the lab per policies.
• Input patient data and test orders into the computer accurately and timely.
• Communicate with medical staff and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Maintain organized, sanitary work area and assist lab staff as needed.
