Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care – Medical Center North Liberty is seeking a 100% Pharmacy Technician, Certified or Trainee, to perform drug distribution and control for outpatient and clinic dispensing under supervision. The role includes inventory maintenance, secure handling of medications, and operation of automated dispensing equipment.

The position will be filled as Technician, Certified or Trainee based on qualifications.

Qualifications

• Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
• National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Must meet ongoing education requirements and maintain certification.
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
• Ability to calculate ratios & proportions for pharmaceutical needs as demonstrated by a work sample.

Responsibilities

• Perform activities associated with drug distribution and control for outpatient and clinic dispensing.
• Inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas including emergency drug supplies.
• Review pharmacy medication inventory for expired medications.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and return medications as needed.
• Maintain medication security and proper storage in patient care units and pharmacy areas.
• Maintain controls and security for controlled substances and prepare/dispense records.
• Operate and maintain automated dispensing equipment and related systems.
• Assist with training of pharmacy students and new technicians; provide supervision to student technicians.
