Job summary

Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician for the UHH Pharmacy Department. This part-time (0.9 FTE), day shift position runs 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

with weekend and holiday rotation. The role covers medication preparation, stocking, delivery, and clerical duties across hospital, nursing home, home health and hospice settings. Responsibilities include sterile product preparation, outpatient prescription processing, inventory control, and assisting pharmacists.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pharmacy Technician training desirable.
  • Certification must be completed within 18 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and stock medications for hospital, nursing home, home health and hospice use.
  • Prepare sterile products (IVPB, PCA, LVP, chemotherapy).
  • Process outpatient prescriptions and fill medication exchange cassettes.
  • Maintain controlled substances inventories and records.
  • Conduct hourly medication pickup and delivery to patient care areas.
  • Enter orders, manage inventory and assist with billing in pharmacy systems.
  • Train and assist other Pharmacy staff as needed.

Job description

Location: Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus

Role & Department: Certified Pharmacy Technician in the UHH Pharmacy Department

Hours & Shift:Part-time (.9 FTE), Day Shift Position. 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Scheduled days may vary during the week. Includes aweekend and holiday rotation.

Role Responsibilities:Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Director, performs medication preparation, stocking and delivery functions, as well as clerical and housekeeping duties as assigned for the operation of the Pharmacy Department in an accurate and efficient manner to provide necessary drugs when needed for treatment of patients at the hospital, nursing home, home health and hospice departments. Additional duties may include the following:

  • Process and prepare outpatient prescriptions.
  • Prepare and compound all sterile products including, but not limited to, IVPB medications, PCA syringes, LVP, and chemotherapy products.
  • Fill medication exchange cassettes from start to finish including, but not limited to, running pick lists and debit and credit reports.
  • Assure expired medications are not in patient care areas.
  • Maintain controlled substance inventories.
  • Conduct hourly visits to all patient care areas to pick-up orders and deliver medications.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to order medications and supplies from wholesalers and various vendors.
  • Working knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems. Ability to enter medication orders, maintain inventory and provide medication billing, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate daily controlled substances records.
  • Reconcile insurance problems, i.e., Medical Assistance and Medicare.
  • Maintain proper levels of floor stock for all Pharmacy products.
  • Package all medications as to Pharmacy policy.
  • Complete continuing education on a regular basis.
  • Label products appropriately.
  • Assist and train all other Pharmacy personnel as needed including, but not limited to, Pharmacists and other Pharmacy Technicians.
Qualifications
  • Candidates should be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior Pharmacy Technician training program completion would be desirable.
  • National Pharmaceutical Technician Certification is to be successfully completed within 18 months of employment in this position.
  • Previous hospital or pharmacy experience is preferred.Ability to type, perform computer data entry, use a calculator, and perform math calculations.
  • Strong computer and c lerical skills are necessary.
  • Must deal courteously and respectfully with people.
  • General familiarity with hospital routines, medical terminology, and drugs preferred.
