Job summary

Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, WI, seeks a part-time Sterile Processing Technician in the Surgical Services Department to ensure the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and to maintain reprocessing areas.

The role requires attention to detail, effective communication with nurses and surgical staff, and the ability to manage supplies and documentation. Work four 8-hour days on days with some flexibility; CRCST/CER certification within 6 months is expected.

Qualifications

  • Technical college education/certification in a Sterile Processing Technician program is highly desirable but not required
  • Pass CRCST and CER certification exams within 6 months of hire
  • Strong attention to detail and dependable communication
  • Prior health care experience is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sterilize surgical instrumentation and maintain reprocessing areas
  • Manage supplies, equipment, and instruments in the reprocessing areas
  • Communicate effectively with RNs, surgical staff, patients, and physicians
  • Maintain sterilization records and perform quality control tests
  • Respond to phone calls and support all areas of the surgery department
  • Handle clerical duties as directed by the department director
  • Use basic computer spreadsheets, word processing, and data entry

Job description

Location: Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus
Role & Department: Sterile Processing Technician in the Surgical Services Department
Hours & Shift: Part-time (.8 FTE) day shift position, Monday through Friday scheduled four 8 hour days with some flexibility
Role Responsibilities:
  • The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instrumentation as well as maintaining and organizing the reprocessing areas in the Surgery Department
  • This position is also responsible for the management of supplies, equipment and instruments required in the reprocessing areas
  • Will need to communicate effectively with Registered Nurse's and other surgical staff along with patients and physicians
  • Will be responsible for other duties as assigned such as maintaining sterilization records, quality control testing, maintaining, and updating manufacturer IFU's
  • Will respond to phone calls and will assist and support all areas of the surgery department as needed
  • Responsible for clerical duties as assigned by departmental director, such as but not limited to, responding to phone calls, collecting departmental statistics
  • Candidates should have a abasic knowledge of computerized spreadsheets, word processing and data input
Qualifications:
  • Technical college education/certification in a Sterile Processing Technician program is highly desirable but not required
  • Prior health care experience would be beneficial
  • Will need to be extremely detailed in this role
  • Will need to pass the CRCST and CER certification exams within 6 months of hire
  • Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to provide high quality work and be detail oriented
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be very dependable and have some flexibility with their personal schedules
  • Previous experience with the Microsoft Office Suite programs is beneficial
