Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified as a licensed technician through a national program; continuing education required to keep license active.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service.
• Handle inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise.
• Accept new prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the supervising pharmacist's discretion.
• Contact doctors to take or request refills as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing.
• File prescriptions after they are dispensed and report medication errors.
• Order, check in, stock pharmacy supplies, and log invoices.
• Perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
• Maintain confidentiality of patients' private medical information per HIPAA.
• Adhere to all pharmacy statutes and regulations.
• Work with coworkers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant environment.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
