Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in processing prescriptions, insurance billing, and customer service in a fast-paced retail setting. You will handle labeling, dispensing, and distribution of medications while maintaining HIPAA compliance and store standards.

You will collaborate with pharmacists and store teams to ensure accurate prescriptions, smooth workflow, and a positive experience for customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified as a licensed pharmacy technician through a national program; continuing education to maintain license.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or clerk preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise and judgment.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests under supervision.
• Contact doctor offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing and troubleshooting.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
• Order, check in, stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices.
• Perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
• Maintain confidentiality of patients' private medical information (HIPAA).
• Adhere to statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacy technician.
• Work with coworkers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other areas of the store and take on special projects as assigned.
• Maintain personal hygiene and dress standards and Hy-Vee policies.
