Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in processing prescriptions, billing, and customer service. You will ensure accuracy, maintain confidentiality, and help with inventory and ordering in a fast-paced retail pharmacy.

You will assist with prescription preparation, labeling, insurance claims, and coordination with healthcare providers, while upholding HIPAA and Hy-Vee policies. Training is provided to support growth and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certified as a licensed technician through a certified national program is required; continuing education must be maintained to keep license active.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk is preferred.
• Vaccination certification is required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests under supervising pharmacist guidance.
• Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Submit insurance claims and assist with third-party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors.
• Stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices; perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification when applicable.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and confidentiality of patient information per HIPAA.
• Adhere to all laws and Hy-Vee policies; cooperate with coworkers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Take on special projects as assigned and maintain professional hygiene and appearance.
