Job Title

Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) – Facility Based Crisis

Schedule

A variety of shifts available for 24/7 coverage: 8‑12 hour shifts, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift. Shift differentials: 10% for weekday nights, 10% for weekend days, and 15% for weekend nights.

Job Responsibilities
  • Meeting with clients to provide advice and support in accordance with a treatment plan
  • Assisting in peer support groups with assigned consumers on a regular basis
  • Supporting and assisting consumers in daily decision‑making and resolution of minor problems
  • Finding resources, advising clients of processes, and encouraging follow‑through with proposed resolutions or social activities
  • Accompanying clients to meetings and participating in community group meetings to advocate for consumer needs, leading recovery dialogues and self‑help sessions
  • Fostering clients’ development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities
  • Observing behavior and general well‑being, then discussing observations with clients
  • Modeling effective coping and self‑help techniques to individuals or groups of consumers
  • Providing advice on empowerment skills and successful community living
  • Informing clients about community resources and how to use them appropriately, including providing information to consumers and families on specific topics as assigned
Requirements
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional Status and Peer Support certification or certificate of Peer Support supervision
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of experience working with the supported population
  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or at least one continuous year as a current or former recipient of mental health/substance abuse treatment, with eligibility for Peer Support Specialist certification by the governing agency
  • Completion of at least twenty (20) hours of training specific to the required components of the service definition, including crisis response, within the first 90 days of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and automotive insurance
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen
  • CPR, first aid, NCI, and/or role‑related certification (a plus)
  • Pre‑employment screening: criminal background check, name checks in OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities registries, drug testing, and education verification as required
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required)
  • If driving is required for the position, proof of driver’s license, driver’s insurance, and vehicle must be provided
