Job summary

RHA Health Services, LLC seeks a Certified Peer Support Specialist to provide essential peer support within a community‑based setting in North Carolina. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, advocate for clients, and support recovery through group facilitation and resource navigation.

The role requires NC Peer Support Certification or eligibility, at least one year of relevant experience, and a flexible schedule Monday–Friday in a community-based location.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise to the healthcare team and advocate for clients’ preferences in treatment and activities.
  • Meet with clients to offer advice and support per their treatment plan.
  • Assist in peer support groups with assigned consumers regularly.
  • Support daily decision‑making and resolution of minor problems for consumers.
  • Help clients locate resources and encourage follow‑through with proposed resolutions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide essential expertise and consultation to the interdisciplinary healthcare team, promoting a culture that recognizes, understands, respects, and integrates each client’s perspective and preferences into treatment and community activities while serving as an advocate for clients.
  • Meet with clients to give advice and support in accordance with their treatment plan.
  • Assist in peer support groups with assigned consumers on a regular basis.
  • Support/assist consumers in daily decision‑making and resolution of minor problems.
  • Help clients find resources, advise them on processes, encourage follow‑through with proposed resolutions, locate social activities, or provide other assistance as needed.
  • Accompany clients to meetings and participate in community group meetings to advocate for consumer needs; lead recovery dialogues/self‑help sessions.
  • Foster client development of healthy relationships by encouraging participation in community activities.
  • Observe behavior and evidence of general well‑being and discuss observations with clients.
  • Model effective coping and self‑help techniques to individuals or groups of consumers.
  • Provide advice to clients on empowerment skills and successful community living.
  • Inform clients about community resources and how to use them, providing information on specific topics to consumers and families as assigned.
  • Work as a member of a healthcare interdisciplinary team focused on ensuring successful recovery and overall mental health for clients.
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with the supported population.
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist, or 1 continuous year as a current or former recipient of treatment (mental health/substance abuse) and eligibility for certification by the governing agency.
  • Complete a minimum of 20 hours of training specific to the required components, including crisis response, within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and automotive insurance.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • CPR, first aid, NCI, and/or role‑related certification (a plus).
  • #INDBH.
  • Pre‑employment screening: Complete criminal background check, name checked in registries (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities), drug testing, education verification, and other credentialing as required.
  • For positions requiring driving, proof of driver’s license, driver’s insurance, and vehicle if required for transportation of individuals.
