Job summary

Jobtailor in New Jersey seeks a skilled Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will scrub, gown, and glove the surgical team, prepare sterile fields, and pass instruments during procedures, maintaining sterility and safety throughout.

Certification is required upon hire in NJ and PA (new grads excluded if applicable); NCCT or NBSTSA credentials are accepted. The role demands significant manual dexterity and physical endurance to support a dynamic OR environment.

Qualifications

• Certification required upon hire for New Jersey positions.
• Certification required upon hire for Pennsylvania positions unless the candidate is a new graduate.
• Pennsylvania new graduates must obtain certification within six months of the hiring date.
• Acceptable certifications: NCCT or NBSTSA.
• Minimum 1-1/2 years of on-the-job training.
• Ability to sit up to 1 hour per day.
• Ability to stand up to 8 hours per day, possibly 6 hours at a time.
• Ability to walk up to 8–10 hours per day, up to 2 hours at a time.
• Manual dexterity for handling and twisting/turning.
• Ability to lift and carry objects up to 10 pounds consistently and up to 25 pounds frequently.
• Ability to push objects weighing 100+ pounds frequently.
• Ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level frequently.
• Ability to move and respond quickly.
• Ability to hear normal conversation and high and low frequencies.
• General, near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
• Depth perception
• Ability to tolerate visual monotony

Responsibilities

• Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures
• Scrub, gown, and glove self and members of the surgical team
• Set up the sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions
• Ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are in good working condition
• Perform appropriate counts with the circulator before the operation and before incision closure
• Assist with draping the sterile field
• Pass instruments, retractors, sutures, and other items to the surgeon during procedures
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team
• Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique
• Handle surgical specimens appropriately and safely
• Handle sharps and medications according to operating-room safety policies
