Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program or prior employment as a surgical technologist before Sept 1, 2009.
• Must have current CST certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist before Sept 1, 2009.
• BLS Healthcare Provider certification per RQI guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting.
• Must read and comprehend perioperative information; basic computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft Windows; communicate effectively and address the needs of patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites; passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and holds retractors as needed.
• Practices aseptic technique and assists in room prep and cleaning after surgery.
• Assists staff and surgeons to ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available for procedures.
• Has two years of OR experience as a scrub tech; works in instrument room as needed; takes assigned call.
• Shows understanding of age-specific patient needs and participates in cost containment in the OR.
