Job summary

Duke Health is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified, to support Eye Center physicians in evaluating patient eye problems. Under supervision, you will perform diagnostic tests and assist with patient care at NCEENT of North Durham.

Responsibilities include screenings, visual field tests, tonometry, lensometry, keratometry, and assisting with contact lens fittings, while maintaining equipment and patient charts. Regular day shifts are offered in Durham, NC.

Qualifications

Work requires at least 1 year of directly related experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
Education background generally equivalent to a high school education.

Responsibilities

Assist Eye Center physicians and support staff to perform diagnostic tests for eye problems.
Conduct preliminary screening exams for physician review (visual fields, color vision, tonometry).
Examine cornea, lens, and anterior chamber with a slit lamp.
Measure visual acuity with/without glasses; perform lensometry measurements.
Record findings in patient charts and assist with contact lens fitting.
Calibrate and maintain instruments (biomicroscope, lensometer, keratometer, tonometers).
Restock rooms and prepare supplies; perform related duties as needed.
