Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to assist individuals in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, executing therapeutic plans by teaching patients to use adaptive equipment, guiding exercises, and engaging them in activities essential for recovery.
2. Activity and Program Planning: Contributing to the planning and selection of therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
3. Progress Monitoring: Monitoring and documenting patient progress, observing changes, reporting to the occupational therapist, and adjusting interventions to ensure continuous improvement.
4. Patient and Family Education: Educating patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications, providing clear instructions to support ongoing therapy at home.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• Current license or certification in the state of practice
