Job summary

A leading home healthcare provider is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to deliver therapy services under the supervision of licensed therapists in Colorado Springs. The role includes implementing therapy interventions, monitoring patient responses, and ensuring compliance with highest standards of care. Ideal candidates will have an Associate Degree from an accredited OTA program and relevant licensure. Qualifications

  • Current state COTA license required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience preferred.
  • Communication in additional languages is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification; TB screening within the past 12 months and Hepatitis consent/declination must be on file.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance are required.

Responsibilities

  • Implement therapy interventions as delegated by the supervising OT.
  • Provide care in accordance with a physician-ordered plan.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and report to the OT.
  • Accepts clinical assignments consistent with education, demonstrated competency, and state scope of practice.
  • Implements non-evaluative OT interventions including ADL/IADL training and mobility training.
  • Reinforces therapeutic activities and home programs established by the OT.
  • Monitors patient response and functional performance.
  • Maintains a safe treatment environment in the patient’s home.
  • Educates patients and caregivers on prescribed activities and safety strategies.
  • Applies infection prevention and control principles and standard precautions.

Summary:

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant provides skilled occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, in accordance with the physician-ordered plan of care, agency policies, state and federal regulations, and CHAP accreditation standards. The COTA implements delegated interventions, monitors patient response, and reports progress and changes in condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist.

Essential Functions:
  • Implements occupational therapy interventions only as delegated by the supervising OT.
  • Provides care in accordance with the physician-ordered and OT-established plan of care.
  • Verifies assigned interventions prior to each visit and reports inability to carry out ordered services.
  • Accepts clinical assignments consistent with education, demonstrated competency, and state scope of practice.
  • Implements non-evaluative occupational therapy interventions, including: ADL and IADL training; upper extremity range of motion, strength and coordination activities; functional mobility and transfer training; training in use of adaptive and assistive equipment; environmental modification strategies to promote safety and independence.
  • Reinforces therapeutic activities and home programs established by the OT.
  • Modifies treatment techniques within delegated parameters based on patient tolerance and response.
  • Monitors patient response to treatment and functional performance.
  • Observes and promptly reports to the supervising OT.
  • Assists with collection of data to support reassessment and care planning.
  • Uses effective interpersonal and communication skills to reinforce patient and caregiver education.
  • Instructs patients and caregivers in: prescribed activities and exercises; use of adaptive equipment; safety strategies and energy conservation techniques.
  • Supports patient engagement and adherence to the plan of care.
  • Applies infection prevention and control principles, including standard and universal precautions.
  • Maintains a safe treatment environment in the patient’s home.
  • Identifies risks to patient safety and reports concerns promptly to supervising OT.
  • Completes accurate, timely and objective documentation in the EMR.
Skills And Competencies:
  • Knowledge of COTA scope of practice and supervision requirements.
  • Ability to follow delegated treatment plans and clinical direction.
  • Basic computer and EMR documentation skills.
  • Ability to safely utilize adaptive and durable medical equipment in the home.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and prioritize patient safety.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Requirements:
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and completes assigned tasks and visits as scheduled, and within designated timeframes.
  • Complies with all organizational policies, procedures and ethical business practices.
  • Completes all required education, training, evaluations and maintains current knowledge and competency through continuing education.
  • Communicates and supports the mission, ethics and goals of Frontier Home Health.
  • Adheres to agency dress code and professional appearance.
Regulatory And Credentialing Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited OTA program with an Associate Degree.
  • Current, unrestricted state COTA license.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a COTA preferred.
  • Current CPR certification; TB screening within the past 12 months and Hepatitis consent/declination must be on file.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance are required.
Physical And Environmental Demands:
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending and reaching required.
  • Ability to lift, push and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and varied home environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Communication in additional languages is preferred.
