Job summary

Sterling Therapy Providers is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to implement and advance occupational therapy programs under an OT supervisor. The role encompasses ADL and ROM activities, documentation, and participation in care planning in a rehabilitative setting.

Ideal candidates are graduates of an accredited OTA program, certified or eligible for AOTA certification, and licensed or eligible for licensure in New York.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program certified by the AOTA; certified and/or eligible for certification by the AOTA Certification Board.
• Licensed and/or eligible for state licensure as required by the state of practice.
• Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Occupational Therapist.
• Provides OT treatments including ADLs and ROM exercises.
• Performs activities of daily living evaluations under supervision.
• Organizes and facilitates treatment groups with the OT.
• Instructs residents, families and caregivers in therapy techniques under supervision.
• Collaborates with rehabilitation team to develop resident programs.
• Maintains timely documentation for all treated residents.
• Attends care and staff meetings as a OT representative.
• Cleans, maintains and reports equipment needs for repair.
• Ensures high-quality service in a compassionate atmosphere.

RATE: $40 PER HOUR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements occupational therapy programs and provides occupational therapy treatments to residents to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist.

RESPONSIBLITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Implements resident’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Occupational Therapist;
2. Provides individualized occupational therapy treatments including activities of daily living and range of motion exercises;
3. Performs activities of daily living evaluations under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
4. Organizes and facilitates treatment groups in consultation with the Occupational Therapist;
5. Instructs residents, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the occupational therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist;
6. Works with other members of the rehabilitation team to develop programs and activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each resident;
7. Maintains appropriate and timely resident and non-resident documentation for all residents treated;
8. Attends and contributes to resident care, staffing and other required meetings as a representative of occupational therapy, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist;
9. Cleans, maintains, identifies and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary;
10. Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association. He/she must be certified and/or eligible for certification by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
2. Licensed and/or eligible for licensure, as required by the state.
