This summer employment opportunity is available for students actively enrolled in a nursing program. It is a PRN position with the potential to be scheduled up to full-time hours during the summer. In the fall, employees can maintain part-time employment with a minimum of 0.3 FTE (one 12-hour shift per week).
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, CNAs provide direct patient care and assist with delegated tasks within their scope of practice. They should understand their roles and responsibilities and seek clarification when needed. They must be capable of producing accurate, timely documentation with minimal oversight and have basic knowledge of printer and fax functions. The role requires multitasking skills, motivation, and alignment with SPH’s values. Refer to the Orientation Competency Inventory (OCI) for specific tasks and responsibilities.
Knowledge/Experience: Prior hospital or long-term care experience, including familiarity with medical terminology, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication skills, stress management, professionalism, and workload prioritization. They must understand growth and development principles relevant to patient care and be able to communicate observed changes to the RN.
Education: High school diploma, HiSET, or GED preferred. Completion of a CNA program is required. This position may include a training assignment, possibly paid below the standard rate, with conditions specified at hire.
License/Certification: Current CNA certification or enrollment in SPH CNA training with certification expected post-training. Valid BLS certification required. SECURE Training must be completed within 6 months of hire and updated annually.
