Responsibilities

1. Assist nurses by performing basic care activities essential for patient comfort and personal needs.
2. Dress, groom, bathe, feed, and record vital signs of patients.
3. Respond to call lights, assist with toileting, oral, nail, and catheter care, help patients in wheelchairs, transport patients, turn bedridden patients, report changes, and manage waste.
4. Hold certification as a Nurse Assistant; ensure functions do not exceed Standards of Practice as per certification.
5. Provide simple or uncomplicated patient care.
6. Clean rooms and change bed linens.
7. Take and record temperature, pulse, and respiration rates.
8. Administer medication as directed by a physician or nurse, and document the amount and time given.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, as per agency policy.
• Certification as a CNA or Home Health Care Aide, if required by state licensure.
• Completion of a recognized home care aide training program or six months of recent experience as an aide.
• Ability to utilize proper body mechanics when lifting; may be required to lift up to 75 lbs. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, and reach.
