Thrivemore is seeking a Medication Technician to provide personal care and safely administer medications in accordance with physician orders and facility policies. You will assist with daily living activities, document care, and promote resident dignity and safety in a supportive environment.

Essential duties include medication administration, ADL assistance, and maintaining accurate records, while upholding HIPAA and privacy standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completed 24-hour Medication Aide training approved by the NC Board.
  • Active on the Medication Aide Registry (NC Division of Health Service Regulation).
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and document care.
  • Assist residents with ADLs including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
  • Maintain medication carts/storage safety and report discrepancies promptly.
  • Record vital signs and observe changes, reporting to nursing staff.
  • Assist with meals and ensure safe dining experiences.
  • Support participation in recreational and therapeutic activities.
  • Follow infection control and universal precautions for safety.
  • Maintain resident rights, confidentiality, and professional standards.
  • Document accurately in resident records and daily logs.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Participate in care planning, staff meetings, and required training.

Description

The Medication Technician (MedTech) provides personal care and support to residents while safely administering medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and regulatory requirements. This role assists with daily living activities, maintains accurate documentation, and promotes resident dignity, safety, and well-being within a supportive care environment.

Essential Functions
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders, accurately documenting all care provided on medical administration records.
  • Provide or assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene.
  • Maintain security, safety, and cleanliness of medication carts and medication storage areas, reporting discrepancies promptly to the supervisor.
  • Take and record vital signs, observe residents’ conditions, and report changes in health or behavior to the Director of Nursing or nursing staff.
  • Assist with resident meals, ensuring proper feeding support and safe dining experiences.
  • Support resident participation in recreational, social, and therapeutic activities.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution protocols to ensure resident and staff safety.
  • Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and professional standards of care.
  • Use safe body mechanics and proper equipment when lifting, transferring, or assisting residents.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in resident records and daily logs.
  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Participate in care planning, staff meetings, and required training sessions.
  • Assist with light housekeeping, laundry, and equipment cleaning as needed to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct, completing required training and reporting concerns promptly.
  • This position is designated as essential to the operations of the organization. Team members in this role may be required to report into work (on-site at the community) during emergencies, inclement weather, or other situations when the organization remains operational.
Physical Demands
  • Always required to stand, walk, and assist patients.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently required to bend, reach, push, and pull.
  • Occasionally required to lift or assist in lifting individuals over 100 pounds with team or equipment assistance.
  • Occasionally required to kneel or crouch.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient condition and read charts.

Work Environment
  • Frequently works indoors in resident-living area.
  • Frequently exposed to bodily fluids and communicable diseases; PPE provided.
  • Frequently works near residents experiencing physical or emotional distress.
  • Occasionally exposed to strong odors, cleaning chemicals, and medical waste.
  • Occasionally works in noisy environments due to equipment and alarms.
  • Occasionally outdoors with residents to help escort to appointments or around campus.
Shifts
  • Medtech positions available:
    • Part‑Time, 3rd shift (11pm-7am)
    • Part‑Time, 1st shift (7am-3pm)--2 days during the week + every other weekend
  • CNA positions available
    • Part‑Time, 1st shift (7am-3pm)
    • Full‑Time, 2nd shift (3pm-11p)

Requirements

Qualification Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Completed 24‑hour Medication Aide training program approved by the NC Board of Nursing.
  • Active on the Medication Aide Registry operated by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of relevant experience working in long‑term care or assisted living, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic personal care practices, including hygiene, mobility, and activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge of safe medication administration practices, including documentation, storage, and reporting requirements.
  • Skill in measuring and recording vital signs, recognizing changes in resident condition, and reporting promptly.
  • Understanding of infection control, safety, and universal precaution practices.
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with residents, families, nursing staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional ethics, resident rights, and professional boundaries.
  • Competence in safe body mechanics and use of assistive equipment for lifting and transfers.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and accuracy in completing documentation and assigned tasks.
  • Compassion, patience, and attentiveness in providing resident‑centered care.
