Job description

This role involves assisting licensed nursing personnel in providing nursing care. You will participate as a member of the healthcare team under the supervision of a licensed nurse, following the Standards and Authorized Duties for Certified Nursing Assistants (OAR 851-63-0010 - 0060, 0080, 0090) or Nursing Assistants (WAC 246-841-400, 405). Additionally, duties include clerical tasks, housekeeping, and patient transportation within the hospital.

Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland is renowned for its specialty programs and clinical excellence, including cancer care, kidney transplants, neurology, ophthalmology, weight-loss surgery, robotic surgery, rehabilitation, and Oregon’s only 24-hour urgent care located alongside an emergency room, providing access to emergency services if needed.

Responsibilities
  1. Provide care delegated and supervised by a registered nurse to meet the needs of patients based on their condition, development, and age.
  2. Participate in and implement the interdisciplinary care plan as delegated.
  3. Organize and adapt the care plan considering the patient’s needs, preferences, and routines.
  4. Demonstrate awareness of and reinforce priorities in the care plan.
  5. Encourage self-care and independence as appropriate.
  6. Identify normal and abnormal mental functions and demonstrate skills to address the needs and behaviors of cognitively impaired patients.
  7. Maintain the patient’s environment by avoiding hazards, using restraints properly, and following infection control procedures.
  8. Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms of common diseases and communicate findings accurately and promptly.
  9. Provide and maintain adequate nutrition and oral fluid intake.
  10. Recognize emergencies and respond appropriately, demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures.
  11. Complete documentation according to guidelines.
  12. Competency
  13. Understand statutes and regulations, practicing within the legal scope of a certified nursing assistant.
  14. Maintain and demonstrate clinical competency by:
  • Keeping current certification.
  • Performing acts within the scope of practice for which certified.
  • Continuously demonstrating technical skills.
  • Performing tasks after appropriate education or clinical experience.
