Job summary

SOVAH Martinsville, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant for Med Surg. This in-person, PRN role on dayshift in Martinsville, VA offers an hourly range of $16.19–$19.99.

The CNA will support nursing staff, record vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, and help maintain patient comfort and safety. Requirements include a high school diploma, CPR/BLS, and Virginia CNA registry; flexibility across shifts is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR or BLS Provider certification required.
• Registration on the Virginia Board of Nursing Aide Registry is required.
• 1 year of CNA or related clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs (BP, pulse, respirations, temperature) as directed.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living: bathing, grooming, eating, mobility.
• Report abnormal findings to RN and nursing staff.
• Keep patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean, and orderly.
• Assist with toilet needs and bedpan use; aid ambulation with walkers or wheelchairs.

Position Summary:

• The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will perform basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including obtaining and recording vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature, as directed.
• Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to the nursing staff.
• Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean, and orderly.
• Assists patients in the use of toilet facilities, including bedpans.
• Assists patients with ambulation, including the use of walkers and wheelchairs, when applicable.
• Assists patients with feeding, when needed.
• Assists patient with fluid intake, as directed, and measures and records fluid intake and output.
• Repositions patient, as appropriate.
• Checks diapers/under pads with each position change and ensures patient cleanliness; provides linen change as needed.
• Utilizes a proper patient identification system, i.e., two patient identifiers.

Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuity of care and appropriateness of nursing coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Martinsville on all units.

Required Skills:

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Certifications/Licenses:

• American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR or BLS Provider required.
• Registration on the Virginia Board of Nursing Aide Registry is required.

Minimum Work Experience:

One (1) year as a CNA, Respiratory Care Assistant, Rehab Tech, Certified Medical Assistant, EKG Tech, EMT, Phlebotomist, or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
