Summary
The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications to designated residents in a safe and organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with medications, documentation of medication assistance, and resident care. The Certified Medication Technician must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with the resident, the resident’s family, and all team members. She/he must be able to observe and report changes in the resident’s physical condition or behavior. She/he also carries out all other duties of a Resident Assistant.
Responsible For
- Ensure that the attainment of Victory Housing, Inc. Mission Statement takes precedence over all decisions and actions.
- Adheres to all Victory Housing policies and procedures, COMAR 10.07.14 regulations as well as County, State and Federal guidelines including but not limited to DOH, CDC, CMS, and OSHA.
- Implement universal precautions and infectious disease control protocols at all times. Wear assigned PPE appropriately per policy and as requested.
- Complete all assigned training including initial orientation, COMAR 10.07.14 requirements, monthly in-services, HIPAA, VHI required personal care and skills modules. Participate in required safety and disaster drills as assigned and mandated.
- Coordinate with Registered Nurse/LPN on all matters relating to the Clinical Program and Medication Delivery System.
- Read and document pertinent and objective information in the Communication Log for Resident updates, status changes, and observations.
- Administer Medications and Treatments utilizing the EMAR platform. Prepare appropriate medication for med-pass, ensuring correct drug, resident, route, dosage, time, and charting. Ensure medications are not expired.
- Bring medications to Residents in designated areas discreetly. Maintain confidentiality of Resident medication among others.
- Check Resident photo or ask name prior to administering medication. Offer water, juice, or apple sauce if prescribed, and observe swallowing.
- Document medication administration in EMR; if system is down, use paper MAR. Document Resident concerns and any refusal immediately and report to RN/LPN/Coordinator.
- Answer Resident questions regarding medications. Return non-dispensed medications to the cart and lock it after medication pass.
- Wash hands before and after medication pass, adhere to universal precautions. Prepare medications for short-term absences and document accordingly.
- Maintain medication cart and Wellness Center cleanliness and restock supplies. Adhere to narcotics count policies.
- Assist with Resident care and physical support as needed, including after falls, transfers, toileting, and emergencies.
- Complete incident reports as required. Promote dignity and quality of care for Residents.
- Communicate with the Clinical team regarding Resident health issues.
- Serve meals in the dining room, assist with meal service, and ensure safety and hospitality standards are met.
- Follow safety procedures for lifting, fire, disaster, and infection control. Report unsafe conditions and malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain positive public relations and team support. Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Respond to help and call bells promptly. Answer phone calls professionally. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
