Job summary

Good Samaritan in Canistota, SD is seeking a Medication Assistant who will provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under a charge nurse. The role includes administering medications as delegated, documenting care outcomes, and supporting residents with meals and daily activities.

The position requires CMA/CNA certifications per state and active CNA registration where applicable, with full-time hours and day shift.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• Minimum age of 18 preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
• Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually based on state requirements.
• Maintains all department specific required certifications. When applicable, may need a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
• State CMA/CMA qualifications vary by state as described (Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota).
• For all Good Samaritan facilities: CMA or TMA certification or equivalent required; active CNA registration or ability to obtain within 120 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance.
• Administer prescribed medications under nurse supervision and document outcomes.
• Record vital signs and care-related observations; communicate changes to the charge nurse.
• Assist with meals, housekeeping, and laundry to support resident well-being.
• Participate in wellness and recreational programs and support departmental activities.
