Job summary

Bayhealth Medical Center is seeking a Medical coder to abstract clinical information, assign ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes, and ensure accurate DRG grouping and reimbursement. This role supports the Kent Campus operations in Dover, DE with day shifts and full-time hours.

The position requires a certificate in medical coding, CPC certification (or CPC-A/RHIA) and at least six months of coding or medical records experience. A healthcare facility background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Certificate program in medical coding or billing.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CPC-A/RHIA required.
• Six months experience coding or medical records using ICD/CPT.
• One year coding experience in a healthcare facility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Codes data from patient records using ICD/CPT to optimize hospital reimbursement.
• Abstracts data from medical records to compile accurate statistics and determine diagnoses.
• Identifies medical conditions and verifies medical necessity from documentation.
• Corrects abstracts with incorrect codes per Finance or third parties.
• Responds to physician inquiries about documentation and coding assignments.
• Performs all other duties within the scope of job responsibilities.
